People v. N.S. (resolved January 9, 2012)
Charges – Petty Theft
Location – Harbor Justice Center, Newport Beach, Orange County
Facts – Client shoplifted over $173 worth of clothing from JCPenny. Client was caught and admitted shoplifting. Client was not a US citizen and a conviction would have adverse immigration consequences. Furthermore, Client’s initial court date was December 22, 2011 and Client wanted case dismissed as soon as possible because she was applying for her green card in January.
Result – Fred Thiagarajah negotiated case with DA’s office and obtained a complete dismissal of the charges within 18 days of the first court appearance.

People v. J.A. (resolved November 29, 2011)
Charges – Penal Code section 484-488 (Petty Theft)
Location – Harbor Justice Center, Newport Beach, Orange County
Facts – Client shoplifted $100 worth of clothing from Costco.  Client was caught and admitted shoplifting.  Client worked in the financial sector and her employer ran background checks every 4 months.  Client needed a complete dismissal.
Result – Fred Thiagarajah negotiated case with the DA’s office and obtained a complete dismissal of the charges.

Charges -- Felony First Degree Burglary, Felony Grand Theft 
Location -- Harbor Justice Center, Newport Beach, Orange County 
Initial DA Offer -- Plead guilty to felony grand theft with 120 days jail 
Final Result -- Misdemeanor Trespass with Community Service 


People v. S.M.
Charges -- Petty Theft 
Location -- Los Angeles County 
Result -- Reached agreement with City Attorney not to file charges
