Last week a high-school coach in Indianapolis was arrested for performing sexual acts on a 17-year old student. What makes this case more interesting is that the coach was an attractive 22-year old woman and the 17-year old student was a male. Megan Crafton, 22, who had previously listed herself as “engaged” on her Facebook page, had allegedly performed oral sex on the student inside her car at a supermarket parking lot. Normally, a 22-year old having sex with a 17-year old doesn’t raise a lot of eyebrows, but because Crafton was in a position of authority at the school where the 17-year old was a student, the crime is being charged as a felony.
Although the age of consent in Indiana is normally16, the age of consent is raised to 18 if the adult has a position of authority over them as part of their job. Although she admitted that the sexual acts occurred, Crafton has pled “not guilty” to child seduction. Crafton’s attorney has emphasized that while the 17-year was a student at the school on the basketball team, Crafton herself had no formal position of authority over that student. “She wasn’t his coach. She wasn’t his teacher. She wasn’t his teacher’s assistant,” claims her defense attorney. The anticipated defense is that the sexual relations Crafton had the student were legal.
Rumors had been swirling around the incident, but the police only moved on it after the 17-year old student revealed the details of the liaison to them.
MY OPINION – that 17-year old student isn’t a victim. What straight 17-year old guy wouldn’t want to get a blowjob from Megan Crafton?! Yes, yes, I know that we can’t have a double standard and I suppose we might be a little more upset if it was a 22-year old male and a 17-year old female, but honestly, who, besides the prosecution, really thinks a crime has occurred? Frankly, I think we should turn Megan Crafton loose in high-schools across the country. Perhaps instead of being an assistant cheerleader coach, she can start teaching sex-ed.
