Defendant Slashes Defense Attorney with a Razor

December 15, 2012

A defendant attacked his own criminal defense attorney during a trial in San Diego on Thursday, December 13, 2012.  32-year old Eduardo Macias slashed defense attorney William Burgener across the lower cheek with a makeshift razor.  Authorities are still trying to determine how Macias smuggled the razor into court.  Burgener was transported out of the courtroom on a gurney, his face wrapped in bandages.  Stitches were required to close the wound.  At the time of the attack, 20 students from a local high-school were watching the trial as part of a classroom assignment.

Opinion — Is this defendant a complete idiot?  Who attacks the one person whose sole job it is to defend you?  Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.  Needless to say, if the current trial moves forward, his chances are not good, regardless of what he’s being charged with.  And if this dummy actually gets a mistrial, do you think his next defense attorney is going to be motivated to help him out? What is this moron thinking?
