Christine Calderon was walking along the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a co-worker after sunset on Thursday, June 13, 2013. She paused to take a picture of some men holding signs that asked for money and contained 4-letter expletives and a smiley face. One of men demanded a dollar from Calderon after she took the picture, and when she refused, she was assaulted.
Two of the three men pinned Calderon’s friend against the wall, and the primary attacker, Dustin Kinnear, jumped her and stabbed her in the stomach. Calderon managed to run a few feet away and then collapsed. She was pronounced dead at the hospital a few hours later.
Kinnear, 26, was charged with one count of murder with “personal use of a knife allegation,” and faces life in prison if convicted. Jason Joel Wolstone, 33, faces one count of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury and two counts of accessory after the fact. Brian Joseph Widdows, 34, was charged with two counts of accessory after the fact.
