Man Sentenced to 28 Years in Prison on a Kidnapping and Murder Charge

March 20, 2019

On June 18, 2016, Teodoro Nunez, 39, drove to his ex-girlfriend’s residence and stabbed Omar Castillo to death, who was with the former girlfriend at the time. Nunez then stabbed his ex-girlfriend in the abdomen. He then forced her into his car and drove away. Fortunately, twenty minutes later, Nunez was stopped by an officer for a broken tail-light, who noticed blood on the girlfriend. Nunez apparently has been convicted twice of domestic violence and he and his girlfriend have been known to have a chaotic relationship. Nunez had even recently moved out of the home that they shared, but believed they were just taking time apart, according to court records.

On June 17, 2016, Nunez and his former girlfriend got into an argument when he went to her home to obtain stereo cables. According to court records, Nunez claimed he gave her an “uninvited hickey”, while she told law enforcement that Nunez bit her on the neck and attempted to pull her into his vehicle.

Following that incident, law enforcement contacted Nunez and told him to turn himself in. Under the impression that he will go to jail and most likely deported, Nunez decided to go to his ex-girlfriend’s home to give her his car. He was not aware Castillo would be at the residence at that time, his defense attorney wrote in a court filing. In addition, the attorney claimed the two men exchanged words before Nunez stabbed Castillo. The ex-girlfriend then ran up to Nunez, causing him to “accidentally” stab her.

On Friday, March 15, 2018, Nunez was sentenced to 28 years and eight months in state prison. Back in Januay, a jury found Nunez guilty of second degree murder, kidnapping, domestic battery, and violating a domestic order. To learn more about domestic violence in general, click here.
